On the one hand, fleet management is really quite good. Finally, there’s the combat, which at least has a bit more depth than the rest of StarDrive even if it doesn't pan out in the end. The result: I destroyed a longstanding alliance because I made an insulting offer, all because I didn’t memorize the tech tree. You can trade technologies, but the interface for doing so doesn’t actually tell you the relative value of the techs you are attempting to trade. Diplomacy is also a bit frustrating: you’ll get warnings from other races not to colonize a given star system because they have claimed it, but you can’t tell them to stay the hell out of your home system. Unfortunately, none of this personality comes through in their behavior, where every AI player has exactly the same priorities. To its credit, the art is nicely drawn and some of the characters are enjoyably odd, like the Lovecraft-inspired Ralyeh (space Cthulus) and the Cordrazine, a race of crazed, slave-taking mollusks. But a space 4X game is really about imperial competition with exotic alien races, which is why StarDrive is packed with memorable characters like. There's space and time to build every kind of building on each planet, thanks to StarDrive’s ponderous pacing and stingy building variety, and in no time at all I found myself ruling over an empire of dozens of completely interchangeable worlds. Managing each new planet you colonize or conquer is interesting at first, but quickly rendered insignificant via technological progress and a lack of a need to specialize. No matter which race you play, you’ll still be either conquering the galaxy or trying to unite it into a grand alliance, so there can’t be any diversity in play styles. Regardless of bonuses, every race quickly converges on a fairly generic approach to galactic conquest thanks to StarDrive’s dearth of victory conditions and its uninteresting, predictable tech tree. You choose from one of eight different spacefaring races (or customize your own) each with their own traits – but nothing in this decision really matters much. While the legacy 3d battle system will remain in place for story-based battles, planetary ground combats will now take place over several turns, allowing you - and the AI - an opportunity to gain space superiority and to reinforce a besieged planet.īut do you think we'd stop there? In fact, there are only very few arguments against manufacturers selling directly to consumers. Many manufacturers are still biding their time but the issue is more relevant than ever. On the other hand, retailers fear to be circumvented and excluded from the sales process. Partnering with sales tax experts is always helpful (and sometimes necessary) in achieving a simplified sales tax compliance experience. They don’t want to jeopardize relationships with distributors and retailers, and thus, possibly, their own revenues, but they are constantly tempted by the larger margins of selling through direct-to-consumer sales channels. ![]() When direct selling companies have a thorough understanding of what it takes to be sales tax compliant, they can better ensure their companies meet their legal obligations and avoid audit exposure. While not taxable everywhere, access to SaaS software is taxable in many jurisdictions. Similarly, most direct sellers offer their salesforce a “replicated website.” This is often accomplished through hosted software, or software-as-a-service (SaaS). Do you charge your ambassadors a membership fee? If so, what does that membership fee entitle them to? Depending on what they get, the membership fee could be taxed. Consider the services you provide to them. When considering your sales tax responsibility, don’t just think about the products your distributors/brand ambassadors market to the public. Layered on top of that are the many temporary sales tax holidays that happen every year, many of which include an exemption for clothing. A fishing vest may not seem like something you would wear unless you were actually fishing (usually not an everyday activity) but in some states, fishing vests would qualify. If that were not complex enough, every state with a clothing exemption defines “everyday wear” a little differently. Some, like the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, exempt clothing but only on a portion of the sales price. Likewise, eight or so states exempt clothing intended for everyday wear from sales tax. Does a beverage need to be carbonated to be considered a soft drink? Well, it depends. Several states exclude candy and soft drinks from their food exemption, and within those states the terms “candy” and “soft drinks” can also be defined differently. However, each of those states may define “food” a little differently. For example, 38 states have special tax rules for food. ![]() With every state having a sales tax administer their tax independently, the complexities multiply. Many direct selling companies offer goods that are subject to complex and nuanced sales tax requirements. Economic nexus is established simply through sales activity, and in many states, $100,000 in sales or 200 individual transactions is enough to trigger a sales tax compliance obligation. The rules vary from state to state.Įven if you happen to avoid establishing physical presence nexus in a state or two, you also need to be concerned about economic nexus. However, even in the absence of a direct salesforce, attending trade shows, conferences or seminars can sometimes be enough. For example, if a business has employees or contractors, such as distributors or brand ambassadors, then the physical nexus has likely been met. ![]() Physical nexus is established through people or property. It’s important to consider nexus first because once nexus is established, the responsibility to collect tax begins immediately. ![]() Knowing whether or not physical presence nexus has been established is a critical first step for direct sellers. It’s a daunting task when facing it alone. Along with an expansive physical nexus footprint, direct sellers must know how their products and services are taxed around the country. Where Cyberpunk 2077 falls short for me in that comparison is the control system for the cars and radar – you’ll find GTA V nailed this. There is definitely a platform for comparison between the two games, but as for which is better – they’re acquainted, not blood relatives.Ĭyberpunk 2077 is always going to be compared to GTA, given the style of gameplay and that Rockstar have cemented their game as the Gold Standard of open-world criminal RPG. Cyberpunk 2077 or Grand Theft Auto V : Which Is Better? But this is also where i feel the recent controversy also sinks its claws in – i can’t help feeling further development would have made the game completely immersive instead of just very immersive. This feeds into Cyberpunks real strength and that is the care and attention to detail CD Projekt Red put into making Night City a living, breathing metropolis. Each time the player comes across these scenarios there’s clues or a story unfolding which strengthens the lore. This city has stories down every alley way and it’s easy to stumble across a story in a shipping container, an aftermath in an apartment or a body in the desert. So far i’ve poured 70 hours into the game and i’m still not done. Even after a few hours i was looking forward to a replay on down the line. As i stated there are differing career paths to be chosen but the core gameplay remains the same. The story itself is fantastic and not at all linear. It’s safe to say from this moment on I fell in love with the game. Internet returned, service provider looking embarrassed, I was able to play the game as it should have been. I’ll not go into any great detail for fear of spoilers – but the glitches ruined what was quite a sombre moment in the prologue of the Streetkid path. The silver lining is that it led to some hilarious late spawns and renderings within the game. Knowing the issues around the release i was aware that my problems could be fixed with the addition of the patches so i was happy to wait it out. This was without a doubt the worst case scenario. To top it off the game was crashing around once an hour. The gameplay was jittery but manageable and the sound occasionally fuzzy. A lot of textures didn’t seem to render properly and in places lived up to the most horrendous screenshots I’d previously seen online. Playing it on Xbox One, the graphics were ropey to say the least. ![]() So consider this a review that includes the worst state the game could possibly be!
