The two grew up apart, yet found themselves drawn back together through the intricate acts of fate, and a shared culture that transcends mere boundaries. As Dan’s family settled in Melbourne, Katarina’s would do so in Canada, an entire hemisphere and ocean away, and on entirely separate landmasses from their home nation of the Ukraine. Little did they know back then that these two families would eventually become one, brought together by an unyielding bond that knows not of either distance or time. Artist Stuart Reid designed a piece for the Centre titled Dance of Venus. The same firm that designed the Eaton Centre, Queen's Quay Terminal, the National Trade Centre, and Toronto Centre for the Arts.The Living Arts Centre is a non-for-profit organization that is funded by the City of Mississauga and the Government of Canada. There is studio space for hot glass, flameworking, wood, photography, ceramics, painting & drawing, jewellery, and textile & fibre arts.There are three theatres the biggest a 1,350-seat concert theatre called Hammerson Hall a 382-seat recital theatre called the RBC Theatre and a small 110 seat space named the Rogers Theatre.The Living Arts Centre was designed by the Zeidler Partnership. The Living Arts Centre houses performance theatres, an exhibition gallery, seven professional art studios and corporate meeting facilities. The Centre is visited by over 300,000 visitors annually, who come to view performing and visual arts programs, attend corporate meetings/conventions, or participate in a variety of community events. The centre has averaged over 400,000 visitors each year.The Living Arts Centre is a 225,000 square foot multi-use facility which opened in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada in 1997. The complex also includes a 110-seat lecture style space known as the Rogers Theatre, a variety of meeting rooms, rehearsal space and an on-site Food & Beverage department.Ī range of exhibitions, events and performances are hosted by both the Living Arts Centre and community partners, including the Mississauga Choral Society, Mississauga Symphony Orchestra, Mississauga International Children`s Festival, and several resident artists occupy the studio spaces. Hammerson Hall is the larger of the two theatres, providing tiered concert seating for 1300 people, while the RBC Theatre has a flexible seating arrangement, allowing for cabaret-style seating at tables or up to 400 people for theatre performances. Glass artist Stuart Reid designed a piece made of etched and enameled glass, blown by mouth, for the main foyer titled "Dance of Venus", which won an international competition. The building was funded by donations by corporate, community and individual sponsors, as well as the City of Mississauga and the Government of Canada. The Living Arts Centre was designed by the Zeidler Partnership, who were awarded an Award of Merit in the City of Mississauga Urban Design Awards in 1998 for the complex.
